To put the campaign’s runtime into perspective, I was able to get home from work, download the entirety of the game, then complete all three campaigns before I turned in for the night. To be fair, there’s plenty of compelling storytelling crammed into the trio of narratives, but they still felt a bit “blink and you’ll miss them.” There’s an additional fourth campaign coming in about three weeks, but who knows if that will add enough content to make the single player content feel like its own full-fledged, stand-alone experience. At launch, the game features three mini-campaigns that might as well be referred to as episodes due to their surprising brevity. As you might imagine, Battlefield V is choosing to embrace the same structure only on a far more limited scope. All trailers indicate an even bigger adventure than before with huge implications for Kratos' future and his relationship with Atreus. After God of War: Ascension's mediocre reception, people were unsure about the series' status in modern gaming, but the 2018 title re-established Kratos' relevance and made the brand stronger than ever. No one was sure how anybody could ever top the original God of War games, but Cory Barlog and the team at Santa Monica Studios managed to bring an already legendary franchise to new heights.
